What a bargain that would have been!

On the surface the report in a London news site about Sadam offering to go into exile if given $1 billion dollars looks like it might have been quite a deal – considering the costs of the war.

That is until you read what his deal really was and remember who he really was. The deal:

“It seems he’s indicated he would be prepared to go into exile if he’s allowed to take $1billion and all the information he wants about weapons of mass destruction.”

So the deal was he gets to go hide in whatever terrorist loving country would take him and he would have lots of money and the plans for WMDs. He was already buying suicide bombers in Israel for what $25k each? I bet for $50k each he could have found one to carry a dirty bomb or a sarin bomb into Times Square New Years Eve.

No, not a situation I would have wanted. It is bad enough with UBL and the nitwit in Tehran. Besides I suspect he would have wanted to take his murderous sons with him.

I certainly won’t second guess the President on the basis of this.

Fred Smith and Lee Greenwood

Wednesday night I was invited to Fred Smith’s home for his 5th Annual Summer Celebration that featured Lee Greenwood.

Senator Fred Smith is running for the GOP nomination for Governor. Last night’s event was unique among his other campaign events, not only was it hosted at his home, but it featured singer Lee Greenwood who sat in at the bloggers only “press” conference with Fred. This blogger event was invitation only and was the reason I was invited.

We had the opportunity to ask Fred questions:

What should be done about the siphoning of money out of the Highway “Trust” fund for non highway purposes? Smith stated that especially with the state running a surplus there is no excuse for transferring money to the general fund rather than using it for the intended purpose.

Asked about how he planned to win the election? He said he would never apologize for being a conservative, that he plans to gather an “Army of conservatives” who want a change in the state’s government. That he plans to highlight liberal big government and big spending policies and contrast that to the conservatives desire for smaller, less intrusive government and lower spending.

He pointed out he believes in small business as the core of the state’s economy and that he will fight to defend private property rights, traditional marriage, the right to life and the right to keep and bear arms.

Lee Greenwood – who most people simply associate with his song “God Bless the USA” (which my 7 year old grandson calls “the America song” when he makes me play it over and over on the car cd player) but there is much more to him than just one song.

Greenwood admits when he first wrote the song, he had no idea how much it would impact people. “One of the reasons I wrote the lyric ‘I’m proud to be an American,’ is I really wanted to instill the pride back in America. The song represents my family, my community and all the Americans who are proud of who they are.”

Greenwood mentioned he is 100% behind Fred Smith and wants to help in any way he can. He sees that we are a nation “that needs direction” something Fred and others like him can provide. He decried the idea the next generation will have to fix what is being “screwed up” by this one.

His service to the country began early, performing in USO shows at the age of 14. Naturally his show is a hit with the troops with his pro America patriotic theme.

Greenwood is also part of the Sean Hannity Freedom Alliance Concerts which raise money for scholarships for children of our fallen heroes. His concert featured many of his famous songs as well as the new one he has written for Fred’s campaign.

The evening was great – even though I managed to miss most of the wonderful food because i talk too much!

Bush offends Cuba delegation

It was interesting to watch the Cuban delegation at the UN jump up and scurry out of the room when President Bush said in his speech:

In Cuba, the long rule of a cruel dictator is nearing its end. The
Cuban people are ready for their freedom. And as that nation enters a
period of transition, the United Nations must insist on free speech,
free assembly, and ultimately, free and competitive elections.

And what is with Chavez deciding not to come to the UN. Did he think Bush was announcing a new invasion of Cuba to oust his friend Fidel?

Gunrunner’s return

Early Sunday morning 7 buses pulled up to the waiting crowd of family members and friends awaiting the warriors’ return. The HMLA 269 (Marine Light attack helicopter squadron – Cobras and Heuy’s) have just returned from the latest deployment in Iraq. My son, a Captain, is one of the Cobra pilots. It was his third deployment, the first since he got married. The reunion was touching, as were all the others.

One of the children, who amazingly were still awake and going strong, was only 7 days old. Lots of cute kids.

I’m now looking forward to finding out what ot was like this time, I could see he lost weight – doesn’t really like the food over there. Speaking of food – time to head over to their house so he can try out the new BBQ grill his honey bought as a welcome home gift.

Time to recap the Remake of WWII series

With the lead actor,Ahamdinejad, of the WWII Dramatic remake now headed for “Broadway” [ground zero]it is time to recap the series of articles I’ve been writing since last spring about the vast casting effort and the creative re-writes of the script as well as the “progress” being made in assembling all the military and logistical materials needed to pull off this epic remake.

As with lots of Hollywood sequels, by the time they hit number 3 the original cast and plot lines make little sense, the new cast of bad guys take on an unrealistic set of personality traits and the special effects are always much more extreme and the PR effort often over blows the quality of the final product.

We now need to add some aspects of espionage, someone privy to secret plans on the new “D-Day invasion” has spilled the beans and the unscrupulous fifth column is exploiting these leaks.
