Tonight is the most encouraging night politically since 2006

Today is a a great day for conservative politics. I don’t know a lot about Scott Brown but what I do know is that if any Republican could win the “Kennedy seat” the winds of Change have indeed reversed direction from the past two election cycles.

I lost my seat in the 2006 “sea change” and many others lost their in the continued flow of that first wave. But the ebb tide is now set to remove the flotsam that was washed ashore.

Anyone in Colorado interested in a conservative campaigner with ten years experience to help with their effort this year? I’ll dust off my resume’.

Turning solar energy into goop that burns – Algae energy?

Algae to energy? Well – it has been done before, only the goop is black and has been stored underground for millions of years. The oil that runs our economy (even though the Obamanistas try to kill it off) was originally solar energy converted by algae and other organisms into a carbon rich goo. Some became oil, some became coal, some natural gas and there is lots still of it in the ground – even in this country – but Obama and Salazar won’t let us use it. (And Clinton stole gobs of coal from the people of Utah with the “stroke of a pen, law of the land”).

$78 million a drop in the proverbial bucket but the free market would do it at no cost to the taxpayer if the government would just get out of the way. The profits from oil and gas exploration and production are being used to create alternative energy – the energy companies want to stay in the energy business – even if it is not Oil or Gas. They know that at some point other sources of energy will supplant petro. But if the government keeps meddling and trying to put the energy companies out of business or tax them into oblivion then there will be much less investment into energy. Want billions invested in energy – get Washington out of the way!

Impeach Obama?

I saw an Impeach Obama sticker on a car this morning and it would be a good thing but of course it has no chance of happening. It takes a simple majority to defeat it in the House and a minority in the Senate. Having served in the legislature when an Impeachment was pursued and it is not an easy bill to pass in the House and even harder in the Senate.

Even if the mid term elections next year are a landslide, the chances of Impeaching him are virtually nil. The best that we can “HOPE” for now is that the 2010 elections will render him powerless and leave him as the lamest lame duck ever.

Stimulus? Stimulating what? China?

The city of Parker Colorado announced it applied for and received a stimulus grant from the Obamacrats. The $175,000 will go for two projects – one to replace all the 60 watt conventional bulbs in the decorative street fixtures like this one:

With new LED lights. Well OK, should provide a job or two at least? Oh wait – no – they say the regular maintenance people will do it as they have time. And since the bulbs last 25 time as long as the old – they are more likely to need fewer workers ongoing to replace bulbs.

Well then some jobs must be created in making the bulbs – except all those new type of lights are made in China!

The other project is to also replace conventional bulbs in traffic lights. Same deal no jobs created anywhere but China.

Now I am not criticizing Parker for applying for the money or for spending it on these bulbs. The taxpayers will benefit by paying less for electricity in the future. But it is yet another example of a “stimulus” grant that does not stimulate.

Obama wants to create jobs? I say B___ S___!!!!

“Obama says he’s looking at any way to create jobs” That is just an outright lie!

My employer has reduced staff by about 50% since the first of the year – and Obama’s administration and the Democrats in Congress could easily reverse that and they probably would not even have to pass a bill, they would not have to spend a dime of tax payers’ money and they could move the country a considerable distance toward energy independence.

Newt said it over a year ago – Drill here, drill now! There is an abundant amount of natural gas in this country. There is also a huge amount of oil in Alaska and off our coasts. Today we cannot touch that because our Government says no. If they simply said yes and got out of the way free enterprise would once again come to the rescue.

Not only would the 100 or so jobs missing at my employer’s factory reappear, thousands of people in the drilling business and at our competitors businesses would be at work. The reduced costs of energy that would result would add uncountable additional jobs across the economy. Heck, even Government Motors would probably benefit with more cars sold than from the Cash for Clunkers.

But of course Obama will not allow it – he does not really want to help the economy, he definitely does not want to allow free enterprise to help the economy.

Tell Obama to Drill Here – Drill NOW!

Americans for Prosperity is asking you to send a message to Obama calling on him to allow drilling in the USA and off our coasts.

My employer would love to sell equipment to American drillers. We are quoting tools to people around the world – millions of dollars worth – but almost none for drilling in the USA. If there was USA drilling – we would probably have to double or triple our employees. Want some economic prosperity and lower unemployment? DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW!

Global Warming – remind me what it is supposed to be?

How is it with global warming I keep hearing how until just recently NH has skipped summer, that all the reports I hear are that nearly the entire country is having a colder than usual summer.

When there were an abnormal number of hurricanes including Katrina we were told that was a sign of global warming, that we would see high numbers of strong hurricanes every year – that Katrina and rita were just the beginning. But since Rita there have been fewer hurricanes each year and no severe ones. This year the first hurricane – Bill didn’t come along until late August.

Denver Colorado has seen 181 fewer cooling degree days than average (a measure of how much need there is for AC) and since June 1 they have even had 97 more heating degree days than average. The precipitation so far this year is nearly 5 inches higher tha average – and I fail to see how that is a bad thing in an area that is on average only slightly above desert conditions.

The “Scientists” who were claiming that the polar ice caps are certain to disappear quickly have just realised their projections were “a little off” as in they were totally wrong. They concluded that the ice caps will not disappear and have survived higher temperatures than the worst projections they have.

So, we now know that the only reason for Cap and tax is the tax – and that the power to tax is simply power over the lives of the subjects.

Wonder if the NH toll roads could work this way?

Colorado has a recently built toll road E-470 that skirts the east side of the metro area and can mean half hour or more saved on the trip between south of the city to north of the city. It is not a cheap toll. I am not a fan of toll roads – but if they exist they should at least be efficient. This one seems to be (although the massive reconstruction going on with it being only a few years old makes me wonder just how well the whole system runs – maybe not as well as the toll collection part).

The interesting thing is you can either get a transponder – like an easy pass – or you can simply drive through without and they will send you a bill for the toll. As of last month you cannot stop at a booth and pay cash or stop at an automated booth and toss coins. You don’t even have to slow down. The speed limit past the toll collection points is either 65 or 70 mph.

It seems to work – we have received several bills for our sporadic trips (at first just to get to the grand kids out of town baseball games in far east Aurora – and lately to miss some nasty traffic on the evening commute) and the system seemed to always pick up our plate correctly – can’t see that they ever missed – even on the day the rain was coming down in buckets and the spray from the car in front and our own spray behind made it almost impossible for me to see to drive.

They  do have a draconian method of ensuring collection – if you do not pay the bill by the due date (about two weeks after it comes in the mail) each individual toll collection amount ($1 to $2.50 each) becomes a toll evasion fine at over triple the amount of the original toll. Wouldn’t every business love to have that kind of penalty clause along with the state’s police powers, judicial system and DMV doing the enforcement?

But, it works, and makes me wonder why NH could not do the same to end the massive back ups at the toll booths? Of course the toll workers that would be replaced are state employees and anything that would end a state employee job would probably not pass in the current legislature.

Trust everyone, but brand your calves!

Yes, seriously, I am in cattle country. Saw that bumper sticker today – on Saturday I stood in the yard and watched a young eagle catch and devour its lunch about 20 feet away. The prairie dogs all took cover, the way a couple robins were harassing the eagle I suspect lunch was also a robin.

The sunsets over the snow covered Rockies are another unique part of life here – watching the Rockies lose to the Dogers was tempered by watching grandsons having fun at Coors Field.
