Holiday travel - what a difference a day makes
Posted on December 22, 2007
Yesterday, 12/21 we flew from Raleigh Durham to Kansas City and then drove from KC to Wichita.
I Carried my jacket, rolled up my shirt sleeves and enjoyed the nice weather. Smooth flight, the light rain that had hit Raleigh backed off just before we loaded the plane (one of those scale model versions of a real airliner - you have to walk up stairs outside to load, they don’t fit the jetways that real airliners use). We stayed dry.
Landing in KC the sun was breaking through the light over cast and it was a really nice day. The roads were nice and dry, no wind to speak of, even waiting at the rental car office for our ride, we waited out side and I left my jacket off (did roll down the sleeves).
Today, hard to accurately estimate how much snow has fallen so far - it is falling horizontally. White out is an adequate description. Eight inches would seem a fair guess.
The weather report included that I 70 between KC and Topeka was closed because of accidents and fog. The satellite pictures show the storm is stretching from the Oklahoma panhandle across Kansas past Omaha and on to Des Moines and toward Chicago.
originally we were scheduled to fly today but the airline cancelled a few weeks ago, apologized and gave us $150 credits for the inconvenience. Makes me wonder if that airline will survive - we only paid $189 for the tickets!)
My daughter in law flies from KC tomorrow to join her hubby in NH - hoping she has a good trip. Traditionally I would be doing my Christmas shopping today - because it is snowing (I hate crowds) - but I am already done.
Merry Christmas - hope you got to or get to where ever you are spending Christmas and the it is a Happy and safe celebration!
