Talk about lazy!

Posted on August 29, 2007

OK, convenience is - well - convenient, but this is just a little much for me.

This isn’t about the packaged dinner last night which came with a can of cream of chicken soup, about a cup full of curly noodles and some spices and bread crumbs. Although I am sure the recipe was once printed on the soup can label and you were expected to actually buy noodles and spices and bread crumbs and now it all comes neatly measured out in one box. Next time I might just opt for the old route and fake the recipe if it isn’t still printed on the can (which will probably be the store brand - I’m so tight nickels have my finger and thumb print permanently embossed on them before being spent).

No, this is about a commercial that I heard today on the radio. And I won’t mention the company because I have no problem with them providing what some people want to buy - it is the consumers that are the target of my jabs today.

The new product being offered (and I can only assume after some pent up demand was detected by the company - big companies rarely introduce new products with out thoroughly researching the demand - and no, I will not try to explain NEW COKE or the Edsel - I said rarely) - this new product is not really new, no even three year olds can do a passable job of making them - no it is a very common product and is not even trade markable. They are even recognizable by their initials!

Crustless, PBJ sandwiches. Not only that they are frozen to keep them fresh!

Having made countless PBJs (but never crustless - I am that mean!) for my kids and grand kids school lunches, it never even occurred to me that someone would take the huge amount of thought and labor involved out of the process by having a factory spread the PB and the J on slices of bread, slice off the crusts and bagging them. If these had been available, I might have had an extra 30 seconds a day to waste on some other task - like chasing the kids out the door.

Really, does anyone need PBJs pre-made and frozen?
